Description:
Antique Victorian insect-motif brooch designed as a bee, crafted in silver and gold (tested). The gold exhibits a warm tone between yellow and rose. The body is set with a translucent cabochon displaying chatoyancy, with an Old European-cut diamond at the thorax and two cabochon-cut emerald eyes. The wings and tail are set with numerous rose-cut diamonds.
A larger Old European-cut diamond is set at one end of the gold bar in a six-prong fishtail head. All accent stones are set in silver, with the bar and fittings in gold.
The brooch is fitted with a 2.5-inch screw-secured gold bar and includes a swiveling bail for optional pendant wear.
Measures approximately 35 mm wide (including bail), 26 mm in height, and 8 mm in depth. Total weight 13.39 grams.
The cabochon gemstone was not tested in the setting and is assumed to be cat’s eye quartz based on visual properties and comparison to similar antique examples.
